Free Holiday Meals and Other Food Resources for 2024

Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 28. If your budget is tight this year, plan now to enjoy one of the free holiday meals offered in communities throughout north Texas.
We’ve included just a few of these events below. Others may be added before the holiday.
Be sure to use Google and social media to search for more community meals near you.
Operation Turkey
Each year, Operation Turkey volunteers cook, prepare, pack, and deliver hot meals to numerous Texas communities.
Each Thanksgiving meal includes traditional items such as turkey, stuffing, and vegetables.
Volunteer teams will deliver meals between 10 am and 2 pm on Thanksgiving Day — Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024.

Dallas and Fort Worth Feast of Sharing
Bring the whole family to celebrate Thanksgiving at the Central Market/H-E-B Feast of Sharing in Dallas and Fort Worth.
This free community event includes a holiday meal, a visit from Santa, live entertainment, a kid’s zone, and information about health and wellness.

Free “No One Eats Alone” Thanksgiving dinner
Looking for a Thanksgiving meal near Flower Mound?
Underdogs restaurant will host a free “No One Eats Alone” hot meal consisting of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, gravy and a roll.

Metrocrest Services Thanksgiving Food program
Metrocrest Services offers free Thanksgiving meal items for people who live in Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Farmers Branch and the city of Dallas in Denton County, zip code 75287.
Residents of those areas can apply to receive a whole frozen turkey and a bag of Thanksgiving-specific food items.

St. Gabriel Turkey Basket Program
Each year, St. Gabriel Catholic Community provides delicious, nutritious Thanksgiving dinners to families across Collin County.
The St. Gabriel Men's Club organizes the event and with the help of volunteers, prepares the baskets, and distributes the meals.

Grand Prairie Free Thanksgiving Dinner
On Thursday, Nov. 21, the City of Grand Prairie Municipal Government and Grand Prairie Parks, Arts & Recreation will host a free Thanksgiving celebration from 6 to 8 pm.
This event is for Grand Prairie residents.

Find more resources for food and groceries throughout the year using Findhelp.
It’s convenient and easy to use. You don’t need to log in or sign up before using the site.
Simply visit the Findhelp website and enter your zip code.
You’ll see a list of agencies that offer help with food—both emergency and ongoing assistance.
Resources include help with:
- getting emergency food, such as free fresh fruit, vegetables, canned goods, and more
- signing up for food delivery
- getting meals
- paying for groceries
- learning about government food benefits
- shopping for free groceries

Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Benefits
Pregnant women and mothers of babies and young children can get help with groceries from the Texas Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
The WIC program can also help you learn about nutrition and how to plan meals.

SNAP Food Benefits
Another helpful resource for Texas families is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP.
When you get SNAP food benefits, you shop using a Lone Star Card. Use this card like a credit card at any store that accepts SNAP.
You must be a Texas resident and apply in the county where you live.
You’ll need to answer questions about:
- Your Social Security number and birth date
- Your citizenship or immigration status
- The money you make from jobs and other sources
- The value of your car and other property you may own
- The costs you pay for bills
