Five Easy & Fun Activities That Don’t Feel Like Exercise
February 28, 2023
Activity and movement are easy ways to help yourself live a healthier life! Physical activity is important for everyone, no matter your age. Experts recommend about 60 minutes of daily activity for kids, and between 150–300 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise every week for adults. And yes, an hour or more can seem very daunting. But read on – there are ways to make it fun for the whole family!
There are wonderful benefits for kids and adults:
- Maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of developing chronic conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
- Sleep better and reduce stress.
- Feel a sense of accomplishment, which can lead to an increase in self-esteem.
When families exercise together, they can develop healthy habits that last a lifetime. But exercise doesn’t have to be boring or feel like a chore! Here are a few ways to get in shape – and have fun doing it.
1. Get outside.
Visit a park, playground, or trail near you and plan a fun activity or two:
-
- Take a walk or go on a bike ride.
- Bring a jump rope or frisbee or play tag (no equipment needed!).
- Bring a ball and play your favorite sport.

2. Try a free workout.
Search online for fun fitness videos that you – and your kids – will enjoy. Your local park or community center may offer free classes as well.
3. Have a dance party at home.
Make a playlist and let your kids choose their favorite songs to include. If you’re watching TV, take a dance break during the commercials!
4. Set up an obstacle course or scavenger hunt at home.
This can be a great way to keep kids active – it also can be a great way to keep your kids occupied while you’re trying to cook dinner or tackle your to-do list.
5. Play an active video game!
Like Wii Sports or Just Dance. You can also use an app to get more fun exercise ideas for your kids.
When you find fun activities the whole family can enjoy, it’s easier to make them a regular part of your routine – and help everyone stay healthy!
