Member Benefits Spotlight: Breast Pumps for New Moms

Are you a new or expecting mom? If so, you may have heard about the benefits of breastfeeding. Breast milk is a good source of nutrition and can help build your baby’s immune system. It has health benefits for mothers, too – moms who breastfeed can reduce their risk of high blood pressure, breast cancer, and other diseases.

A breast pump can be a helpful tool for new moms who are breastfeeding. It allows you to collect your breast milk at any time of day and store it for later use.

If you are a member of Parkland Community Health Plan, you can get a breast pump with a prescription from your provider. Once you have the prescription, PCHP can help you place an order with one of our approved vendors. Your new breast pump will be shipped to your home at no cost. To make sure you are covered, it’s best to order your breast pump after you’ve had your baby.

PCHP members can call Member Services to start the process. A team member can connect you with an approved vendor, and you will be able to select from a list of options.

  • STAR Medicaid: 1-888-672-2277
  • CHIP/CHIP Perinate: 1-888-814-2352

Texas WIC is another helpful resource for information on breast pumps and other breastfeeding options. Get tips for how to assemble, use, and clean your pump – and how to maintain your supply after returning to work or school.

If you have questions about how to use your breast pump, ask your provider or call PCHP’s 24/7 Nurse Line at 1-888-667-7890 (STAR Medicaid) or 1-800-357-3162 (CHIP/CHIP Perinate).

PCHP helps members during and after pregnancy by offering these resources at no cost:

  • Receive a free car seat once you complete your first prenatal visit within the first trimester or within 42 days of your enrollment with Parkland Community Health Plan.
  • Receive free meal service from the second trimester through 120 days postpartum (60 days postpartum for CHIP Perinate). One free family-style meal feeds four.
  • Receive a portable play yard with bassinet when you complete your postpartum checkup within 7–84 days of delivery.
