Nothing is more important than keeping your kids healthy. Parkland Community Health Plan offers health care benefits to children in North Texas through the STAR and CHIP programs. We serve more than 160,000 members in Dallas, Collin, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro and Rockwall counties.

Services & Benefits

After you enroll in STAR or CHIP, you must select Parkland Community Health Plan as your health plan in order to receive these services.

You can find a full list of services and specific benefit details on our STAR program or CHIP program including exclusions and limitations in the member handbook.

Doctor Visits

Choose your child’s doctor from the thousands in our plan, including many specialists. 

Healthy Checkups

Well-child visits are one of the best ways to help protect your child’s health. You won’t pay anything for these visits or the immunizations they need to stay healthy.

Hospital & Urgent Care

Your child’s benefits include hospital, urgent and emergency care.

Mental Health

Behavioral health services (includes mental health and substance abuse) are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Prescriptions

Benefits include a wide range of prescription and some over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. We also offer home delivery services.

Dental Care

Your child gets dental benefits, like exams and cleanings, through a separate dental managed care organization.

Vision Services

Healthy eyes are an important part of good overall health. You can get a vision exam and glasses, if needed.

Extra Benefits

You have a choice in your family's health. After you enroll in STAR or CHIP, you can select Parkland Community Health Plan as your health plan to receive these value-added services at no extra cost.

Sports Physical Exam

Members ages 5 to 19 can get one sports physical exam per school year.

24/7 Nurse Line

Our 24-hour Nurse Line gives you fast, free medical advice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Dental Care

STAR members can receive up to a $300 allowance per year for dental services, including checkups, x-rays, and cleanings (age 21 and older).

Vision Services

Members have a $100 yearly allowance towards frames. Services can start when your child is a baby and until age 20 and include an eye exam and prescription eyeglasses once during a 12-month period.

Free Car Ride to Doctor/Grocery Store

PCHP offers nonemergency medical transportation (NEMT) to all STAR Medicaid members to their doctor office, food bank or grocery store.

Paid Rewards

Get up to $500 in rewards per year just for making healthy choices such as regular checkups. You can claim your rewards as cash gift cards, toys, household items, and more.

*After you enroll in Medicaid or CHIP, you must select PCHP as your health plan to get these rewards.

Are You Eligible?

In order to apply, you must be a Texas resident and US citizen or legal permanent resident.

Families that include immigrants can apply. You can apply for your child even if you aren’t eligible for coverage.
Applying won’t affect your immigration status or chances of becoming a permanent resident or citizen.

You can apply for anyone in your family, including children and adults.
Apply even if you or your child already has health coverage.
You could be eligible for lower-cost or free coverage.

Who Can Apply?

Any adult who lives more than half the time with an child, including parents, stepparents,
grandparents, other relatives, legal guardians, or adult brothers/sisters,
OR
Anyone age 19 or younger who lives on their own.

What Are The Income Requirements?

You must have a monthly household income - before taxes - that is less than or equal to the following amounts:

After your child is approved, you will get an enrollment packet in the mail from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).
